Thomas Richard Bryan

September 22, 1941 — May 7, 2019

          Mr. Thomas Richard Bryan, age 77, of Sugar Run, PA, passed away on Tuesday, May 7th, 2019, at his home with his loving family at his side.

 

          Tom was born on September 22, 1941, on the family farm in Sullivan County. He was the son of the late John Bryan Sr. and Lottie Trasco Bryan.

 

          Tom attended St. Basil’s School and was a member of St. Basil’s Church in Dushore. He worked as a butcher for most of his life at several locations. Early on he worked at the Leona Meat Plant in Troy, and later worked for Taylor Packing Co. and Cargill Meat Plant in Wyalusing. His time card number at Taylor Packing Co. was no. 8. He retired from there after 38 years of service.

 

          He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and wood working. Even though he had no formal woodworking training he could build anything without a pattern and could usually be found in his workshop. He was usually accompanied by his canine companion, Ladybug who passed away in 2018.

 

          Tom is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marilyn Snyder Bryan at home and by his son Peter Bryan and his dear friend Danny Hollingshead of New Albany, PA. Also surviving are his sisters, Catherine Hoagland of Towanda, PA, and Mary “Mamie” Leonard and her husband John of Dushore, PA, sisters-in-law, Gloria Ann Bryan of Towanda, PA, and Agnes “Becky” Bryan of Columbia Cross Roads, PA, and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marge & Jesse Kisner of Sugar Run, PA, sister-in-law, Audrey Snyder of Sugar Run, PA, and a brother-in-law, Harold Snyder of Wyalusing, PA. Tom is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    

          Besides his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers: John Bryan Jr. of Dushore, PA, Joe Bryan of Dushore, PA, William Bryan of East Smithfield, PA, and Peter Bryan of Dushore, PA. A sister and her husband, Theresa and Theodore Toth, of Candor, NY, brothers-in-law: Larry Snyder of Sugar Run, PA, and Eugene Hoagland of Towanda, PA, and a sister-in-law, Terry Snyder of Wyalusing, PA. He was also predeceased by nieces: Rose Ann Bryan of East Smithfield, PA, Marie Bryan VanDeMark of Rome, PA, and Patricia Ann “Patty” Hoagland of Towanda, PA, and nephews, Paul Joseph Pastusic of Mildred, PA, and James “Bonzo” P. Bryan, of Dushore, PA.

 

          A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA, with the Rev. Thomas J. Major, presiding. Burial will follow in St. Basil’s Cemetery, with a luncheon directly following at the New Albany Baptist Church, 166 Main St., New Albany, PA.

 

          Friends and family may call at the church on Friday morning, May 10, 2019, from 10:00 A.M. until the start of Mass at 11:00 A.M.

 

          Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice in loving memory of Thomas R. Bryan.
