Sylvia Kay Setzer, age 81, a longtime resident of Dushore, PA, passed away peacefully in her sleep, January 4th, 2019, at the Highlands Care Center in Laporte, PA surrounded by her loving family.
Sylvia was born April 28th, 1937, at the family farmhouse on Stoney Point Rd, Herrick Township, Bradford County, the eldest daughter of the late Chester A. Matson. She was raised there, along with her brother and sister, by her paternal grandparents Walter C. and Bertha (Tyrell) Matson. Sylvia was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley Joint High School, class of 1955. Moving to Dushore in 1960, she ran a boarding home for the elderly, caring for them like family. She married Albert M. (Mike) Setzer on December 31, 1966, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Dushore. They celebrated 37 years together before his passing in 2004. Mike and Sylvia ran Setzer’s Garbage Disposal business for many years. After selling the business she continued to work for whomever currently owned the local routes in Bradford and Sullivan Counties, retiring from Casella Waste Systems in 2007.
She is survived by a daughter Angelli (Howard) Denmon of Piqua, OH and Laporte, PA, and a son Albert Michael (Kathy) Setzer of Racine, WI; four grandchildren: Maxine (Robert Walsh) Denmon of Dushore, PA, Melissa (Lee) Adams of Piqua, OH, Kristen Jade Setzer and Michael Anton Setzer of Racine, WI; and three great-grandchildren: Clayton Denmon of Chicago, IL, Alyssa Saylor of Rogers AR, and Myranda Saylor of Frederick, MD., half-sister: Jacqueline (John) Gage of Rushville, PA; and a step-son Gary Setzer of Rochester, NY; four step-daughters: Roseanne (Raymond) Liberatore of Port Charlotte, FL, Deborah (Bruce) Stanley of Rochester, NY, Julie (Mike) Kujawski of Rush, NY, and Lisa Setzer of Penfield, NY; sisters-in-law: Shirley Taffe of Dushore, PA, Marion Thomas of Endicott, NY, and Celine McGlenn of Wilkes Barre, PA; and several nieces, nephews, and step-grand-children.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Albert M. (Mike) Setzer, a brother Crawford Allen Matson, and a sister Kathleen (Matson) Hiduk, and step-mother, Edwinna Matson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 11th 2019 at 11:00 A.M., at Zion Chapel, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Dushore, PA, with her pastor, the Reverend Phyllis A. Pelletier officiating.
Interment will be in the Old Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Dushore, PA.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA 18614, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M.
