Stephen Sysock

March 8, 1926 — April 26, 2017

 

Mr. Stephen Sysock, age 91, of Mildred, PA, passed away on late Wednesday evening, April 26, 2017, at his home with his loving family at his side.

 

          Steve was born in Lopez, PA on March 8, 1926 a son of the late Anthony and Catherine Motel Sysock.  He graduated from the Cherry Township High School. He began working at the former Weldon Mfg. Co. and later Smith, Levine & Harris Mfg. in Lopez, before entering the Navy in 1943.

 

          Steve served in the US Navy during WWII as an Aerial Gunner, and was discharged in 1945.  After being discharged he worked in Detroit, MI for Chrysler Corporation before returning to back home to Sullivan County.

 

          He married the former Alice Marie Barsavage of Mildred on May 5, 1951, and they celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary before her passing on December 12, 2005.

 

          Steve retired from Endicott Johnson Mfg. in Mildred.

 

          Steve was a member of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox, Church, Lopez, PA, and a member of McDermott Post #452 American Legion, Mildred, PA.  In retirement he enjoyed spending time and being with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and also enjoyed hunting and fishing and feeding his birds.

Kyle (Corinne) Gerhart, Brandon & Christopher Sysock and a step-granddaughter, Leilani Kobbe and 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

 

          He was predeceased by daughters, Sandra on May 4, 1968 and Patricia Ann Gerhart on August 10, 2014 and a son-in-law, Ray Gerhart on September 4, 2014; and by brothers, John Sysock of Lopez,, Metro (Tiger) Sysock, Dushore, William Sysock of Georgia, Michael Sysock of Avenel, NJ, Frank Sysock of Avenel, NJ, Nicholas Sysock of Rahway, NJ and Paul Sysock of Lopez: sisters, Ann Serafini of Lopez and Helen Kachmarsky of Dushore.

 

          Burial Service will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017, at 10:00 A.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA with the Rev. Dennis Hendershot, pastor of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Church, Lopez, PA, presiding.  Interment will follow in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Mildred, PA.

 

          Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Sunday, April 30, 2017, from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M.  There will be a Parastas Service on Sunday, at 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

 

          A pass in review will be held on Sunday afternoon, April 30, 2017 by members of the McDermott Post #452 American Legion.  Members are asked to assemble and pass in review at 4:50 P.M. at the funeral home.

 

          Graveside Military Services will be accorded by members of the McDermott Post #452 American Legion in Mildred and the US Navy Honors Detail.
