Ms. Roseanne Marie Lukachik, age 88, of Lopez, PA, passed away peacefully late Friday evening, December 6, 2024, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.
Roseanne was born in Colley Twp., Sullivan County, PA, on April 18, 1936, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Emily Bushovsky Lukachik. She graduated from Turnpike High School a member of the class of 1954.
In her early years, Roseanne worked for Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Once she returned to Sullivan County, she worked as a computer operator at GTE Sylvania for over 25 years before retiring, which made her a member of Sylvania’s Quarter Century Club.
She was a parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mildred, PA, a member of the McDermott Post #452 American Legion Auxiliary, Mildred, PA, as well as a member of the Lopez Civic Association.
Roseanne enjoyed playing cards, ring toss, and traveling with her best friend, Rosalie “Dinky” Burke. She also loved spending time hunting, fishing, and celebrating life on the Bushovsky family farm with her family and friends. These countless celebrations of joy and life exhibited her love of music, especially for guitar and accordion; she would often play these instruments and sing prolifically in intimate gatherings. Moreover, there were many times when she had fun taking bus trips to Atlantic City to try her luck at the casinos with other gambling friends. As an avid gardener and cook, she was passionate about onions (eat one a day!) and hot peppers, growing a variety of both in her raised beds.
Roseanne was a committed member of the Lopez Civic Association from 1976 until her health prevented her from participating and, after retirement, she acted as president for at least 12 years. She often said there was no better place to grow up and live your life than in Lopez; this inspired her to work hard to make it a better place and promote it everywhere she visited.
Her loyalty to Lopez was rivaled only by her fondness for animals. Roseanne had a number of cats and dogs as companions throughout her lifetime, raising as many as five Pomeranians at once. It is certainly no coincidence that the patron saint of her parish is St. Francis of Assisi. Her vigor and passion for all life will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
