Richard W. Pedro Sr., age 73, of Dushore, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon, June 2, 2019, at home with family at his side.
Richard was born on August 25, 1945, one of thirteen children to Gilbert and Cora Hunsinger Pedro. He grew up in Mildred, PA, and attended the Turnpike School.
He began working for his brother’s company, Angelo Pedro Construction and later worked in the woods, logging for George Wettlaufer Sr., and also worked at Glendon’s furniture store in Dushore, laying linoleum. He owned his own farm where he raised veal calves and also worked for Garinger Trucking, driving trucks until his retirement.
At one time he raised Belgian Horses, and used them in several events in Sullivan County. He also had coon dogs and used to enjoy hunting with his brothers and friends.
Richard enjoyed going to the Horse Auctions in Middleburg, PA, with his children and his brothers, Tom, Wayne, Eddy, and Mickey and his sister Eleanor during his horse loving days.
During his retirement, he spent time sitting at his favorite spot at the Pump & Pantry, with all his buddies visiting and seeing family and friends coming and going. He loved to tell stories about all his adventures throughout the years. He liked to tease people, and you never knew what he was going to say.
He spent most Fridays with his sister Toots, traveling here and there. They usually went every Monday to the Wyalusing Sale Barn Auction to see the farm animals and the produce being sold. He liked to bring back produce to share with family and friends. Richard raised chickens, so he could sell the eggs and visit with his customers.
He often made his famous pancakes, from his mom’s recipe, which she used while raising her twelve children. His children and grandchildren have many memories eating breakfasts and laughing and again telling stories throughout the day.
Richard was a loving father and grandfather and enjoyed going to his sons: Richard Jr., Jon, and Jordan Pedro and grandchildren, Richard III and Cory Lewis’s basketball games, always cheering them on.
