Richard "Rick" McCarty

Mr. Richard McCarty, age 71, of Hillsgrove, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at UPMC Williamsport, PA. 

Rick was born on June 2, 1953, in Germany, a beloved son to the late James and Pamela Price McCarty. He graduated from Sullivan County High School in 1971. He married the love of his life, the former Cynthia Marie Hobbs on June 13, 1998. They happily celebrated 26 years of marriage.  

Rick was a logger for many years working with Guy McCarty. After he wed Cindy, they along with Cindy’s brother, the late Patrick “PJ” Hobbs, operated the High Knob Inn in Hillsgrove before retiring in 2022. 

He was currently serving as a Hillsgrove Township Supervisor, where he had served for two terms. 

Rick was known and beloved by many. He liked to visit his friends often on the side-by-side with his favorite side kick, his Pug, Tito. Wherever Rick went, Tito was sure to be there as well.  

Rick spent the remainder of his precious time fawning over his grandchildren. He loved to hear their voices and feet running through the door yelling, “Hi Papa!” The smile on his face while he watched them was unmatched. Having his family around gave him the best memories to leave us with.

Brothers: Christopher M. McCarty of Salem, OR, James C. McCarty of Forksville, PA, Michael L. McCarty of Meshoppen, PA, and Jeffrey L. McCarty of Surprise, AZ. 

He was predeceased by his beautiful daughter, Fawn Amber McCarty on April 8, 2003, and a brother, Roy W. McCarty.  

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the Hillsgrove Fire Hall, 2232 Route 87, Hillsgrove, PA 18619. 

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA.
