Mr. Richard Duane Ross, age 78, lifelong resident of Wilmot Township, PA., passed away on Wednesday, December 26th, 2018.
Dick was born in Towanda, PA, on March 13, 1940, the son of the late William & Edna Fenton Ross. He grew up in Hollenback on the family farm and graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School, class of 1958. On August 25, 1962, Dick married the former Joan Ann Loftus of Wyalusing, PA – the couple celebrated 56 years of marriage. The couple raised their six children on Oak Hill.
In his younger years, Dick worked for Huffman Brothers in Wyalusing and retired from GTE Sylvania after 36 years of service. He worked for Avon Transport in his retirement.
Hobbies included his pulling horses and locals often saw Dick with his team pulling carriages thru local parades and celebrations. He was also known for giving bob-sled rides around Oak Hill. . He enjoyed participating and watching horse-pulls, often accompanied by his children and the Jim McGee family. Dick’s passion was foxhunting – he was a founding member of the Northeast PA Foxhunters Association, as well as a past president and vice-president of the organization. He was a present director of the Pennsylvania State Fox/Coyote Hunters Association, along with being a past vice-president and secretary and was also involved with the Mason-Dixon Foxhunters Association having served as a past vice-president. Dick was often found out with his hounds, on a back road cooking soup on the tailgate of his truck for fellow hunters. Dick was also a life member of the Wyalusing Volunteer Firemen’s Association, volunteering countless hours during the Wyalusing Fireman’s Carnival. It was a rare occasion for Dick to miss breakfast at Bob’s Restaurant in Wyalusing, PA, and the opportunity to aggravate his favorite waitress, Lisa. Dick loved the Wyalusing and Northeastern PA area and was quite a local character to everyone who knew him.
