Mary Rubel

          Mary McGaw Rubel, age 96, of Eagles Mere, PA, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021.

Mary was born in Hersham, England on October 18, 1924, daughter of the late Ernest Stanley Joseph McGaw and Madeline Carman McGaw. 

Mary was known by most of the people in Sullivan County as the proprietor of “Eagles Mere East” for over 30 years. Mary loved her shop!

Married to Charles Rubel in 1946, Mary was predeceased by him on December 12, 2013. She is survived by 6 children, 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Always the adventurous soul, Mary raised her family in the U.S., Pakistan, Nepal, Thailand, and Chile.  She spoke several languages, wrote books, trekked in the Himalayas and never hesitated to venture out and experience life to the fullest.     

She loved life and continued to learn new things well into her 90’s.  Mary was a classical pianist but after hearing a Bob Milne concert at St. Basil’s church in Dushore, she fell in love with his ragtime style and worked countless hours to learn ragtime and boogie-woogie piano.  

Although the family misses her deeply, we all draw strength in a life fully complete.
