Mrs. Mary Rita Lowden, age 65, of Lopez, PA, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, December 19, 2024, at the Gatehouse, in Williamsport, PA, surrounded with love from her family, after bravely and courageously fighting an eleven-month battle with ALS.
Mary was born in Mount Holly, NJ, on August 10, 1959, a daughter of the late Thomas K. & Margaret Scheufele Eggers. She attended Lenape High School from 1974-1976 and graduated from Cherokee High School in Marlton, NJ, as a member of the class of 1978. She married Ted Lowden on January 17, 1981, and they celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary this past January.
Mary worked as a School Crossing Guard for Evesham Township for 15 years, and before that she worked in the cafeterias of the Elementary Schools of Evesham School District.
In New Jersey, Mary was incredibly involved in directly supporting many organizations and championing fundraising for a variety of causes including many years of assuring Christmas packages were delivered to every member of the NJ Fireman’s Home in Booton, NJ. Other causes included various projects for the local school district and local emergency agencies. In addition to these efforts Mary also was deeply involved in assisting military personnel and veterans assuring they had a place to have holiday meals and on more than one occasion arranging creative ways to get them back home in time for Christmas from Ft Dix/McGuire.
In addition to these efforts to which she was directly involved she also supported those organizations that her husband belonged to including various associations such as the Eastern Division of the International Fire Chiefs, Burlington County Fire Chiefs, Burlington County 200 Club and many others. She was a constant force in helping arrange social events for those groups and was considered part of each of those organizations.
Mary and Ted retired to Sullivan County in 2016, where she was involved with the Ladies Auxiliary of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion. She also worked as a bartender at the Legion up until a few months ago. She also served as the Republican Committeewoman for the Lopez Precinct. Once becoming a member of White Ash Land Association, she was a constant attendee at the various events and became the coordinator of the beer booth at the annual picnic for several years.
Mary was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Marlton, NJ.
Mary enjoyed helping others and serving her community in any way she could. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grammy, sister, aunt, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
