Mary Rose Finan

Mrs. Mary Rose Dempsey Finan, age 97, of Dushore, PA, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, August 15, 2024, the day of Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary surrounded with love from her family. 

Mary was born on December 16, 1926, in Mildred, PA. One of nine siblings, she was the daughter of the late James Patrick and Florence Helen Sharp Dempsey. She graduated from St. Basil’s High School as a member of the class of 1946.  

She married Vincent “Pete” Finan of New Albany on September 3, 1955 in St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mildred. They were married for 23 years before his untimely passing on February 6, 1978. 

Mary and Pete were blessed with five children; Mark, Matthew, Michael, Rosemary and Peter. All whom were her favorite! 

While her husband Pete served the United States Navy as a senior Chief Petty Officer, the Finan family traveled with him. When Pete retired from the Navy in 1965 after 21 years of service, the Finan family would settle and live on East Cherry St. in Dushore. 

Mary was a member of St. Basil’s Church and its Altar and Rosary Society.

She enjoyed walking, reading, going out to dinner with the birthday girls. She also enjoyed being outdoors, and sitting on her porch swing watching her flowers grow. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by a son, Peter A. Finan on January 28, 1996, and also by her siblings: Edward “Bud” Dempsey, James Dempsey, Isabel Fitzgerald Schlegal, Loretta Calaman, Kathryn Flynn, and Doris Kunkle.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA, at 11:00 AM with her pastor, the Rev. Thomas J. Major, presiding. Burial will follow in the adjoining parish cemetery. 

Friends and family may call on Saturday morning, November 2, 2024, from 9:00 AM until the start of Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA.
