Leona Lee Dunklee

          Leona (Lee) Woznicki Dunklee, 92 of Laurel MD, passed away on Monday March 18, 2019 at Morningside House of Laurel MD. Born in Inkerman, Jenkins Township, PA in 1926, she was the daughter of the late Francis J. Woznicki and Susan Bodner Woznicki.  She graduated from Wyalusing High School in the class of 1944 and moved to Elmira, NY to work on the Bendix Company assembly line as part of the war effort. 

          She married the late M. Keith Dunklee in 1951 and shared 58 wonderful years together before Keith’s passing in 2009.  The family resided in New York until 1963, moving to University Park MD to raise their three sons.  Leona was devoted to her family and was active in all three sons’ school activities and volunteered with the Boy Scouts.  In 1994, Leona completed 10 years employment in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Maryland, College Park campus as an accounting/procurement manager.  Her association with the University of Maryland extended to her love of sports and she remained a die-hard fan of the Maryland University teams her entire life.  Along with husband Keith, she loved the outdoors, particularly Florida in the wintertime and the Outer Banks, NC in the summer.

          Upon retirement in 1994, Leona moved to Laurel MD and devoted much time and energy to organizing bus trips for the residents of her adult community, serving as a member of the Friendship Club of Laurel.  She was also a proud member of the Laurel chapter of the American Rosie the Riveter Association.  Leona and Keith were members of the Riverdale Presbyterian Church for over 40 years.   

          Leona will be greatly missed by all who knew her remembering her boundless energy and sense of humor.  She had an outgoing and engaging personality along with a wonderful, welcoming smile.

          Surviving are her sons and daughter-in-law; Scott Dunklee of Croom, MD, Craig (Margie) Dunklee of Elkridge MD, Keith Dunklee of Arlington VA and three grandchildren: Brandon, Kaitlyn and Katherine. Besides her husband, she was pre-deceased by her sisters Louise Wildrick, Elizabeth Marshall and her brothers Frank Woznicki, Carl Woznicki and Albert Woznicki. 

          Arrangements are under the direction of P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing PA where there will be a memorial service on June 22, 2019 beginning at 11:00.  Leona’s family will receive visitors beginning at 10:30.

          The family will provide flowers.

          Interment will be held at Wyalusing PA Borough Cemetery at a later date.
