Mr. Leon David Woodruff, age 81, of Dushore, PA, passed away on Wednesday morning, May 16, 2018, with his loving family at his side, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA.
“Woody” as he was known to his family and many friends and customers, was born on December 10, 1936, in Laceyville, PA, a son of the late Cleon Woodruff and Edna “Ellie” Matthews Woodruff Giannini. He graduated from the Laceyville High School, a member of the class of 1954.
A hard working man dedicated to his family, Woody began working for the Bendix Corporation in South Montrose. While at Bendix, he also owned and operated a logging operation, a stone quarry, and worked as a mason laying brick. It was at Bendix where he met the love of his life, the former Audrey Jean Decker. They were married on August 13, 1960, in Wilmot, and worked side by side both in business and marriage for 57 years before Audrey’s passing on August 26, 2017.
Woody and Audrey purchased the Dushore Beverage on December 4, 1972. It was commonly referred to as the “Cave” on Route 87, before moving the operation to the town of Dushore. With the help of their son and daughter, the Dushore Beverage continues to service the area today after 45 plus years in business.
Woody was a member of the Union Lodge No. 108, F. &A.M., and Towanda, PA.
