Mrs. Julia A. Schmeckenbecher, age 65, of Liberty Corners Road, Towanda, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, July 31, 2024, in the comfort of her home surrounded by the love of her family.
Julie as she was known by her family and friends, was born on October 14, 1958, in Towanda, PA, a daughter of the late Clifford J. Chilson and Emma Jane Maines Chilson Schrimp. She graduated from Towanda High School, a member of the class of 1976. She married Gary David Schmeckenbecher and they enjoyed over 30 years of marriage before Gary’s passing on January 17, 2020.
In her early years she was employed at the Towanda Memorial Skilled Nursing Unit before starting her own business, Schmeckenbecher Personal Care Home. For the next many years, Julie provided in home nursing care to many local residents. As they aged, they spent their days living with Julie and most became like members of her own family. She was very well liked and respected by her patients and their families. She was known to be the best in home caregiver in the Towanda area.
She enjoyed sewing and making blankets for all of her family and friends. However her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were the lights of her life. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, and will be missed by all who knew her.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother David Laverne Chilson on September 25, 2011, step father Donald G. Shrimp on January 25, 2007, step mother Katherine “Kay” Chilson on December 10, 2020, and a brother-in-law Carl L. Marcy on September 16, 2003.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Homer Funeral Home, 83 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA, with Austen A. McGee officiating. Interment will follow in the Wysox Cemetery where Julie will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Gary.
Family and friends may call on Monday morning, August 5, 2024, in the Homer Funeral Home, Wyalusing, PA, from 10:00 AM until the start of the service at 11:00 AM.
