Judith Lucille Melzer, age 71, of Eagles Mere, PA, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at ManorCare, in Williamsport, PA, with her loving husband at her side.
Judy was born in New York City, on August 5, 1947, a daughter of the late Clarence “Kelly” Jackson and Lucille Thuss Jackson. She attended Greenwich High School, in CT, and graduated from the Linden Hall School for Girls, in Lititz, PA. She attended Vermont College. She married Richard A. Melzer of New York City on August 29, 1970. They moved to Hershey, PA, where Judy was the secretary to the Head Master at Linden Hall School for Girls.
In Hersey they both competitively competed in curling. Judy was an avid curler and was president of the US Women’s Curling Association. She competed in the US, Scotland, Iceland and England. She was also a former member of the board of trustees at the Linden Hall School for Girls, in Lititz.
In Eagles Mere, Judy was a member of the many local organizations and a member of the Eagles Mere Community Church. She was an outstanding golfer and was the Ladies’ Club Champion at the Eagles Mere County Club in 2002, Ladies’ Senior Champion in 2008, and the Net Champion in the 2010 Albertini President’s Cub. She was also very active with the Eagles Mere Ladies’ Golf Association.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, July 6th, 2019, at 4:00 P.M. at the Eagles Mere Cemetery, with the Rev. Deane S. Shively, officiating.
Memorials in Judy’s honor may be directed to: American Chestnut Foundation, % R. Melzer, PO Box 253, Eagles Mere, PA 17731. The foundation a 501(c)(3) organization, which is restoring the chestnut tree, which due to a blight, was virtually eliminated in the Appalachian hardwood forest ecosystem. A small grove of trees will be planted in Eagles Mere in recognition of Judy Melzer.
