Josephine "Jo" DeRaymond Lane

January 17, 1927 — September 29, 2020

Josephine "Jo" DeRaymond Lane, 93, passed away at her home in Cincinnati, OH on September 29, 2020.  Born January 17, 1927 in Easton PA, she was the daughter of Joseph and Josephine Trombadore DeRaymond.  Her husband of 56 years, Jerome (Jerry) Lane, preceded her in death on October 25, 2012.

Jo graduated from Easton Catholic High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1949.  Upon graduation she taught home economics at Marple Newtown High School until 1952, when she accepted a position with Penn State as the Sullivan County Home Economics Extension Representative.  While working in Sullivan County, she met her husband, Jerry, when he was home before starting law school.  They married in 1955 and moved to Philadelphia, where she returned to teaching until her first child was born.  They later moved to Cincinnati, and in retirement returned to Sullivan County for several months each year.

Jo was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend and sister.  In addition to her professional career, Jo was a tireless volunteer for over 70 years, contributing countless hours to her community and parish through organizations including the Girl Scouts, Meals on Wheels, the Salvation Army, and Mercy Hospital.   For 25 years she created the annual Christmas “angel tree” at Mercy Hospital to honor her fellow volunteers, and she continued the tradition for her fellow residents when she moved to the Barrington of Oakley assisted living community. She was an accomplished seamstress and exceptional cook, and took particular pleasure in sharing her knowledge in both areas, whether in the classroom or in more informal settings.  Jo was especially proud of her Italian heritage, and she honored her mother and grandmother by mastering the traditional dishes they brought with them from their homeland.  She was a strong presence in all the lives she touched, and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by four children, Mary Jo Lane (Tom Giordano), Jerome Lane (Karen), and Karen Lane (Mike Masset) of Cincinnati, and Patricia Lane, of Dushore; six grandchildren, Maurice, Shantell, Alex, Josie, Lydia and Ethan; 2 great grandchildren, Noah and Ezra; a brother-in-law, Michael Lane (Deborah) of Pittsburgh; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jo was preceded in death by sisters Philomena Wolf and Nellie Truchsess; brother, Raymond DeRaymond; sisters-in-law Mary Czygier, Kitty Minier, June Lane, Dorothy Lane and Irene DeRaymond; and brothers-in-law James Lane, Francis Lane, Theodore Czygier, Samuel Minier, Robert Schaible, Raymond Wolf, and Harold Truchsess.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Homer Funeral Home.  A private mass of Christian burial will be held at the convenience of the family, and burial will be at St. Basil Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sullivan County 4-H and sent to Penn State Extension Sullivan County c/o Sandy Pardoe, 9219 Route 487 Ste A, Dushore, PA 18614
