John Michael Minier

October 6, 1963 — October 17, 2017

John Michael Minier, age 54, of Dushore, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 after a quiet and courageous fight with an aggressive cancer.   John was born, October 6, 1963, a son of the late Samuel H. & Catherine “Kitty” Lane Minier.  He graduated from the Sullivan County High School, a member of the class of 1981 and was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. He was a member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church in Dushore, PA.   John was self-employed, and often drew many friends into his various projects on and around his beloved self-sufficient property and cabin in Cherry Township.   John enjoyed time with a wide array of people, personalities and professionals that all considered him a dependable, loyal, and trustworthy friend. He was appreciated for his straight-forwardness, stubbornness, quick wit, and uncanny sense of fair play.      He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, ice fishing, and being in and around all the great outdoors would offer. He kept a small but bountiful garden, the harvest of which was enjoyed by family members and close friends for years.   He also enjoyed music and attending numerous concerts and festivals over the decades, including shows from Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Hank Jr, Bob Seger,  John Prine, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Farm Aid. He appreciated the classics too, like Waylon, Kris and especially Johnny Cash. In fact; he named his cherished, only  child after “the man in black”   John’s son Cash was a constant source of pride and inspiration to him.  He loved his boy and the times spent with him more than anything else on earth. Anyone who knew John well knew this to be true. They and their faithful dog Clyde would often be seen engaging in all sorts of shared interests and activities over their all-to-short 12 years together.   John was a great father, a loved brother, and sometimes a challenging son to his understanding loving parents, whom he missed very much.   He will be missed by many, misunderstood by few, and remembered by all, who each have a John story to tell. May he always Rest in Peace.   Surviving: Son: Cash Samuel Minier                                                              Dushore, PA   Sister: Mary Beth (Lisa Wilcox) Minier                                         Dushore, PA   Brothers: Theodore (Katie) Minier                                                       Williamsport, PA Mark (Michelle) Minier                                                        Dushore, PA Timothy (Tammy) Minier                                                    Round Rock, TX Daniel Minier and fiancée Cheryl Seratch                          Dushore, PA     Uncles: Oliver (Earlene) Minier                                                        Billings, MO Michael (Deborah) Lane                                                      Pittsburgh, PA   Aunts: Josephine Lane                                                                      Cincinnati, OH Dorothy Lane                                                                         Honesdale, PA   Nephews: Zachary, Clayton, Alex, Joseph, and Michael   Nieces: Jacqueline, Markie, and Shelby   and numerous cousins.             A Transferal Service will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev.
