Mr. John Joseph Leonard, age 81, of Dushore, PA, passed away early Monday morning, March 4, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
John was born in Swoyersville, PA, on July 12, 1942, a son of the late Andrew and Anna Urban Leonard. He attended St. John’s Elementary School in Luzerne and Swoyersville High School. He honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1960 until 1963. After his honorable discharge from the Army he attended the Breeden School of Welding in Wilkes Barre, PA.
He joined IBEW Local 1319 and worked as a telephone lineman and also worked construction for several years for Commonwealth Telephone Company in Towanda. He retired from IBEW Local 1319 in 2004.
He was a member of St. Basil’s Church in Dushore, PA, and also a member of the Blue Ridge Gun Club for over 40 years and a member of the IBEW Local 1319 in Wilkes Barre, PA. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Loyalsock Post #996 in Dushore.
John enjoyed hunting, gardening, and cutting trees. He also enjoyed riding motorcycle with his wife Mamie and clay shooting and coloring in adult coloring books.

He is also survived by six great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by a grandson Anthony Leonard, a step son Paul Joseph Pastusic, brothers and sisters-in-law: Anthony and Lorraine Leonard and Frank and Joan Leonard, and a sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and John Bosak. He was also predeceased by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: John and Gloria Bryan Jr., Joseph Bryan, William and Agnes Bryan, Peter Bryan, Thomas Bryan, Theresa and Theodore Toth, and by nieces and a nephew: Rose Ann Bryan, Marie Bryan VanDeMark, Patricia Ann Hoagland, and James “Bonzo Bryan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 12:00 PM in St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA, with his pastor, Rev. Thomas J. Major presiding.
Friends and family may call at the church on Friday morning, March 8, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the start of Mass at noon.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity on one’s choice.
