Mrs. Janet Irene Detrick Harned, age 75, of Herrickville, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, July 13, 2024, at the Guthrie Towanda Skilled Nursing Unit.

Janet was born on October 12, 1948, in Meshoppen, PA, a daughter of the late Franklin P. & Vivienne Louise Hawkey Detrick. She graduated from Wyalusing High School, a member of the class of 1966. She married John Elliott Harned Sr. on November 8, 1968. They enjoyed almost 54 years of marriage before John’s passing on May 12, 2022.

In her early years, Janet helped her husband run their family dairy farm in Herrickville for over 20 years. She later worked for Taylor Packing Co. and then for Kmart in Wysox, PA. She also worked as a home health aide prior to retirement.

She was a member of the Camptown Civic Club.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her beloved daughters-in-law, who she loved like they were her own daughters. She was an avid crocheter, making numerous baby blankets and afghans for friends and family for over 30 years. She took great joy in the peace the crocheting brought her. She also enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers and vegetables. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
