James E. Spence, age 86, of Mildred, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at his home with his loving family at his side.
Jim was born in Mildred, PA, on April 20, 1933, a son of Archie (Cy) and Agnes Harney Spence. He graduated from the Cherry Township High School, a member of the class of 1952. He married Marlene Bahr of Dushore, PA, on September 22, 1956. She predeceased him on November 1, 1995.
Jim served in the US Army and on returning home, he worked at the Dolly Madison and Foremost Dairies in Dushore. In November 1968, Jim and Marlene purchased the Wonder Bar in Mildred, PA which they operated until July 1, 1972. During this period, he also worked at the Keihl Mines in Mildred, PA. In 1974, he went to work for Procter and Gamble in Mehoopany, from which he retired in 1994. He also owned his own dump truck and did a lot of hauling for local folks. He was an accomplished wood crafter.

He was predeceased by a brother, John “Jack” Spence on January 14, 1998, sisters: Mildred D. Guglielmi, on November 6, 1995 and Betty Foley, April 16, 1995.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 9:30 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Thomas J. Major, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Basil’s Cemetery.
Friends may call on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA 18614.
There will be a Vigil Service at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Military funeral honors will be accorded by member of McDermott Post #452, American Legion, Mildred, PA, and the US Army Honor’s Detail.
