Mr. Harold Willard Brown Jr., age 96, of Laporte, PA, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on December 24, 2024, with his companion Lois Block at his side. 

Harold was born in Williamsport, PA, on October 30, 1928, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harold W. and Martha Elizabeth Good Brown Sr. He and his family were members of Christ Episcopal Church, and he was a member of the men’s and boys’ choir from 6 years old until adulthood.  

He graduated from Williamsport High School, a member of the class of 1946, where he was in the Marching Band and the Symphony Orchestra. He then graduated from Penn State University where he played in the Blue Band and the Concert Band.  

Harold enlisted in the United States Army on October 4, 1950, and served during the Korean Conflict as part of the occupation forces in Germany. He was honorably discharged on October 5, 1953. 

Harold married Candace Hopler on October 8th, 1955. He worked for Equifax Corp. for many years in Atlanta, GA, and Frostburg, MD, and then in Williamsport, PA. He retired as the district manager for four locations. He attended the Church of Our Savior in Montoursville. He was a long-standing trombone player of the Repasz Band of Williamsport and performed throughout the area. 

He and his wife wintered in Hope Sound, FL, where he was in the grocery business and played in both the Dixieland 5 and Port St. Lucy Bands, and then spent summers in Barbours, PA. His wife Candy passed away on June 6, 2008, in Florida.  

He returned to Pennsylvania, and he met Lois Block in 2010. Harold and Lois were members of Christ Episcopal Church in Towanda, PA. He was also a member of the Eagles Mere Country Club and the Eagles Mere-Laporte Lions Club.

Harold is also survived by Lois’s children: Lanie, Christopher, Joycelyn, and Gregory, and her grandchildren: Matt and Alexandra. 

A Requiem Mass will be held on Thursday, January 9th, 2025, at Christ Episcopal Church, 1 Main St., Towanda, PA, at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Betsy Sentigar, presiding. Interment will be in the Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport, PA, at the convenience of the family. 

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the church on Thursday morning, January 9, 2025, from 10:30 AM until the start of the service at 11:00 AM. 

Members of the US Army Honors Detail will accord Military Funeral Honors at the conclusion of the Mass. At the conclusion of the Military Honors, there will be a celebration of his life immediately following in the church social hall.
