Frederick Sherwood Crafts, 81, of Eagles Mere, PA passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018 in Pasadena, TX.

Fred, as he was widely known, was born on March 30, 1936 in Oak Park, Illinois – a suburb of Chicago. He was a son of the late Edward C. and Sara (Sherwood) Crafts. He attended high school in Maryland, near Washington, D.C. Fred, his sister, and both of his parents graduated from the University of Michigan. He received a B.S. degree in 1958 and an M.S. degree in 1960 from the university. Fred worked briefly as a geologist for Texaco in West Texas before becoming a Federal employee. As a federal geologist, he worked chiefly in the oil, gas, and environmental fields, with project assignments in California, Oregon, and Washington, DC. In many of these projects he had a leadership role. Fred was married in 1959 then divorced in 1971.He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

Fred moved to Eagles Mere in 1988 from Virginia after retiring from the U.S. Department of the Interior. He was a dedicated member of the Eagles Mere Conservancy and a charter member of the Eagles Mere Shade Tree Commission. He also served the local community with the Eagles Mere Association and the Eagles Mere-Laporte Lions Club. Fred had an abiding reverence for nature, and helped many summer and year-round residents alike to gain a greater appreciation for the natural world. He especially enjoyed hiking, trail maintenance, tree planting, and leading nature walks. He belonged to numerous conservation organizations.

          A graveside service was held on Wednesday, April 4th, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Eagles Mere Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert W. Brown, officiating.

                A Celebration of Fred's Life was held on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the Eagles Mere Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Peter Hodgson, his nephew, officiating.
