Freda Hall Shipley

April 7, 1920 — September 22, 2018

         Freda R. Shipley, former Sullivan County resident, former Towanda PA, resident and more recently of Bethlehem, PA, died at Kirkland Village,

Bethlehem, PA, on Saturday, September 22, 2018.

 

          Born in Laquin, PA, on April 7, 1920, she moved to 204 William St. Towanda, in 1923. The second child of Fred L. and Hattie Shults Hall, she attended Towanda Third Ward School and Towanda High School, graduating in June of 1938. She was employed by Ransoms Insurance, on graduation from High School and continued at this firm, including Ransoms Travel for over forty-five years.

 

          Her hobbies were gardening, collecting miniatures, and in her later years she enjoyed the challenge of "Yard Sales". While living at Kirkland Village, Bethlehem, PA, she enjoyed serving on the Arts and Decorating Committee and loved her flower garden.

 

          She was married to William H. Ransom in 1961 and on his death 1962, continued to operate the insurance and Travel Agency at Seven Bridge St., Towanda, PA. In September of 1963, she was married to C. Bennett Shipley of Harrisburg, PA. Mr. Shipley was employed by Henry and Rocky, Harrisburg, and on expiration of his contract with this concern, he joined his wife and they jointly operated Ransoms Insurance and Travel Agency for many years.

 

          She was a former member and Past Matron of Towanda Chapter No. 76 O.E.S., a past president of Ganoga Lake Association. She was currently a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Towanda, PA, and an associate member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem, PA. She was also a former director of The Citizens and Northern Bank, Wellsboro, PA.

Ten grandchildren: Allyson Megan Shipley and Ian Duncan, Jody Melissa Shipley and Frederico Bortoletto, Chip and Marianna Law, Amanda and Warren Hucks, Holly and Ryan Spangler, Tarra Bonsall Quinn, Kathryn Law and Matt Werner, Mallory and Greg Adams, Charles B. and Abigial Shipley III, and Emma Shipley.

 

Twelve Great-grandchildren:

Aidan, Melanie, and Ella Law, Colton, Nolan, and Theodore Hucks, Camden and Callie Spangler, Gavin Quinn, Fiamma Bortoletto, and Miller and Avery Shipley.

Freda was predeceased by her beloved husband C Bennett Shipley and her sister Beatrice Hall Bechtold, and by two brothers: Lloyd E. Hall and Richard F. Hall. She was also predeceased by her sister-in-law Evelyn Wheaton Hall and brother-in-law David J. Bechtold.

 

Graveside services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Towanda, PA, on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at 10:30 A.M.

 

              Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church, 5 Court St., Towanda, PA 18848, The Towanda Public Library, 104 Main St., Towanda, PA 18848, or the First Presbyterian Church, 2344 Center St., Bethlehem, PA 18017.

    

          Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA.
