Dorothy Rose Smith Bowers

Dorothy Rose Smith Bowers, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep on 30 November 2018 after a long battle with COPD.

          Dorothy was born in 1931 in Susquehanna, PA to Ralph L. and Mary Agnes Smith. She was a 1949 graduate of Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA. Dorothy was a longtime resident of the Sullivan Terrace until recently moving to Arizona to live with her daughter. She was an active member of the Terrace community, particularly the puzzle club, and decorated the Terrace’s halls by framing the puzzles completed by the residents. She was also a faithful member of St. Basil Parish and actively supported the Church’s fundraising events.

          Dorothy met her husband, Burton, while attending Thompson Vo-Ag in Thompson, PA. They were married in 1951 and began their family of 11 children. She was a full-time homemaker, but also enjoyed many hobbies such as photography, travel, reading, art (colored pencil), puzzles and cooking.

          Dorothy was predeceased in death by her husband, Burton and sons Edward and Michael. She is survived by her daughters Patricia (Arizona), Margaret (Wyalusing, PA), Phyllis (Minnesota) and Diane (Colorado); sons Charles (Wrightsville, PA), David (Texas), Richard (Airville, PA), Paul (Maryland) and John (California). She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on June 8, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Basil's Church, Dushore, PA, with the Rev. Thomas J. Major, presiding. Interment will follow in the adjoining parish cemetery.
