Mrs. Doris McCarty Whiteley Stephens, age 95, of Millview Mt. Road, Elkland Twp., PA, went to be with her Lord on August 28, 2017 at Dar-Way Elder Care with her loving family at her side. Doris was born on March 12, 1922, in the family home on McCarty Ridge, a daughter of the late Frank & Jesse Day McCarty. She attended Center School and then graduated from Loyalsock High School a member of the class of 1940. Upon graduation, she married Cecil W. Whiteley who was a dairy farmer and they enjoyed 25 years of marriage when he predeceased her in 1965. On November 13, 1971, she married Roger Felker Stephens and they enjoyed almost 33 years of marriage before he predeceased her on March 8, 2004. Doris worshipped at the Living Hope Fellowship in Estella, PA. Surviving: Two daughters and sons-in-law: Charlotte & Richard Higley Estella, PA Marie & Dennis Hottenstein New Albany, PA Son & daughter-in-law: Durwood & Brenda Whiteley Estella, PA Two sisters: Evelyn Bennett Higley Forksville, PA Joanne Menard Johnson City, NY Two sisters-in-law: Anne Lois McCarty Dushore, PA Joyce McCarty Forksville, PA Doris is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents and her husbands she was predeceased by a son, David Whiteley of Montoursville on July 29, 2008, and by three brothers: Edward L. McCarty of Monroeton, and Richard D. McCarty of Dushore, and Francis M. McCarty of Forksville, and a sister-in-law: Rowena McCarty of Monroeton; three brothers-in-law: Fred Bennett of Forksville, Lawrence Higley of Forksville, and Victor Menard of Johnson City, NY At Doris’s request there will be no services.
