Donald Franklin Detrick, age 67, a lifelong Camptown, PA resident passed away early Tuesday morning, February 27, 2018, at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA, with his loving family at his side.
“Don” or “Bugsy” as he was commonly known by his family and friends, was born in Tunkhannock, PA, on January 29, 1951, a son of the late Franklin C. & Adele W. Uphoff Detrick. He graduated from the Wyalusing Valley High School a member of the class of 1968. He married the former Patricia “Pat” Mulcahy on September 30, 1972, in the Monroeton United Methodist Church. They have since enjoyed 45 years of marriage.
Don went to work at the former Sylvania Manufacturing Facility in Towanda, which is now known as GTP, on April 17, 1969, and retired on January 28, 2011, as Maintenance Manager of the Chemicals and Powders Department.
In his early years as a young father in the Camptown Community, he was active in coaching of the Camptown Little League and Camptown Flag Football. He was one of the founding members of the Camptown Little League.
He was a member of the Camptown Cemetery Association and a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #534, Wyalusing, PA.
He enjoyed grass drag snowmobile racing with his son Jeff and was an accomplished snowmobiler. Over the years he accumulated many points’ championships. In 2003 Bugsy was voted PRO Mechanic of the Year by his fellow racers. He was an avid Wyalusing High School football and wrestling fan, and every year since 1983 he always looked forward to going to Wrestling States in Hershey, PA, with longtime friends Jack Vanderpool and the late Allan “Alley Cat” Vanderpool. A tradition that lasted almost 35 years. He so enjoyed spending time with family and friends – whether a cookout, special dinners, or simply an impromptu gathering at his home.
Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. A great joy was being Poppy to his granddaughter Gracie. His contagious laugh and radiant smile will be missed by all who knew him.
