She was born February 4, 1948 to Robert and Adella Stevens of Wyalusing, PA. Karen graduated from Wyalusing High School and went on to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania where she was an active member of the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority. She later obtained her M.S. in Reading Education from SUNY Oswego. As an educator Karen taught in the Chittenango School District for over 20 years. At Bridgeport Elementary, she was an English language arts teacher helping students with reading and writing. Karen had a passion for creativity; using music and the performing arts to inspire her students as well as fellow teachers. Throughout her career Karen received many grants to implement her ideas in the classroom and was often honored for her success. Later in her career she was an adjunct professor at SUNY Cortland for several semesters. After retiring and with assistance from colleagues, Karen continued writing scripts and participating as Senior Director for Bridgeport Drama Club. It was Karen’s pleasure to work with children and see them shine as stars in the classroom and on stage. She was predeceased by her father, Robert N. Stevens; and half brother, Robert E. Stevens. She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 40 years, Tom; her son, Tom (Shannon) Bundle; daughter, Trisha (Robert) Bentley; her loving mother, Adella Stevens; and several, aunts, uncles, brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Viewing Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 10:00am at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home 1 Grovedale Lane., Wyalusing, PA 18853 followed by the Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon. Interment will be in the Wyalusing Cemetery.
