Phyllis Bell-Hamilton-Lockwood, 74, of Laceyville RR3, Stevens Township, PA, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2002 at her home. Born Nov. 19, 1927 in Newark, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Hazel Tuttle Bell. Phyllis was a graduate of Central High School in Newark and Montclair State College in Montclair, NJ. She was employed by the Prudential Insurance Co. for 26 years until her retirement. Mrs. Lockwood served as a substitute elementary school teacher for the Wysox and Wyalusing elementary schools for several years. Phyllis was an active member of the Christ Episcopal Church, Towanda and the Church Altar Guild and also formerly taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Wyoming Seminary Board of Trustees and was active in the Step By Step Literacy Program, the Board of Elections, the Bradford County Big Brothers/Big Sisters program and served as a Girl Scout leader for many years. She was a member of the Grand Paraders Square Dance group of Troy. Surviving are her daughters, Kathie B. Hamilton of Yokohama, Japan and Shoan E. Davis and her husband, Anthony Davis of Newark, NJ; a son, Chris T. Hamilton and his wife, Rose Hamilton of Amherst, NE; five grandchildren, Kristina, Matthew and Ashley Nicole Hamilton and Alyssa and Bryan Davis; her brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Ruth Bell of West Orange, NJ; her sister, Elizabeth Edwards of East Orange and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Lockwood, Sr. on Dec. 11, 1992. A requiem Mass was held on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 1 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, Main St., Towanda, with the Rev. Maureen Hipple, rector, officiating. Interment was in the Beaver Meadows Cemetery, Beaver Meadows. The family received friends on Friday evening from 6 to 8 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda.
