Obert, age 81, of Dushore, PA passed away on Monday, June 2, 2008 at the Memorial Hospital, Towanda, PA. Dick was born in Dushore, March 25, 1927 son of the late Henry L. and Ruth E. Miller Obert. He graduated from St. Basil’s High School, a member of the class of 1944. He enlisted in the US Navy during WWII. After the war he began working with his dad at Obert’s Mill which had been in the family for generations. He married the former L. Irene Dolan of Herrickville on June 11, 1949. She predeceased him on January 26, 1991 after 41 years of marriage. As the Mill business changed during the 1950’s Dick transformed the mill into Obert’s Sporting Goods and General Store. During this time he instructed many young people in the art of fishing, hunting and especially trapping. He was elected as a Sullivan County District Magistrate and later went to work at Turnpike Elementary School as a custodian which was his favorite position from which he retired in 1989. Dick was a lifelong member of St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA and also of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, the N.R.A. and the Dushore Fire and Ambulance Co. He was a former Cherry Township Republican Committeeman and also drove for meals on wheels. Surviving: Daughter and son-in-law: Bonnie and Frank Barry Dushore, PA Son and daughter-in-law: Rick and Kim Obert Shickshinny, PA Brother: John Obert Olalla, WA Sisters: Patricia Sick Land O’Lakes, FL Kathy Jenkins Hudson, FL Four grandchildren, Cassie Kriebel, Stacey Ammerman, Myranda and Mitchell Obert; five very special great grandchildren, Ean, Dylan, Kyleigh & Colton Ammerman and Rachael Kriebel and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant son, Thomas; brothers, Jim, Henry Jr. and Ray Obert and a sister, Rose Stevens. A Transfer Service will be held on Thursday, June 5th at 10:00 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Basil’s Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00P.M. The family will provide the flowers and ask that memorial contributions in Dick’s memory be directed to: St. Basil’s Restoration Fund, PO Box 307, Dushore, PA 18614 or the Dushore Ambulance Association, PO Box 1, Dushore, PA 18614 or the Sullivan County Library, PO Box 309, Dushore, PA 18614. Graveside Military Services will be accorded by members of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, Dushore, PA. Members are asked to assemble and pass in review at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
