RYAN
John (“Jack”) E. Ryan, of Gwynedd. PA died on March 3, 2008 at the age of 83, and is now reunited in heaven with loving wife Barbara who died last year. Jack and Barbara were long time Eagles Mere summer residents, as Barbara was the oldest daughter of Henry E. Kirk, Jr.
As a devoted husband for fifty-six years, Jack was best known for his sense of humor, engaging smile and endless repertoire of stories. He was a loving father to his four children Jerry, Steve (daughter-in-law Janney), Enid (son-in-law Brett) and Chris (daughter-in-law Amy), “Granna” to ten grandchildren and a friend to so many people he touched. A graduate of Waldron Academy, St. Joseph’s Prep and Duke University, Jack had a diverse career as a successful owner of the Jensen-Ryan Manufacturing Company, head of Public Relations for Industrial Valley Title Company, a Special Sales Assistant for the Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers, and an independent distributor for several commercial laundry companies. He was an avid golfer at Philadelphia Cricket Club where he was Entertainment Chairman for many years, the Commandant of the Eagles Mere Yacht Club, and a very active member of the Maxwell Football Club and Broadcast Pioneers of America. He also proudly served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. Jack’s gift was his ability to connect with people of all ages, and make them laugh. His corny jokes, light stories and unpredictable one-liners will surely be missed. A memorial mass celebrating Jack’s life will be held on March 29, 2008 at 11:00 AM at St. Denis Church, 2401 Saint Denis Lane (at Eagle Road), Havertown, Pennsylvania 19083. Friends and everyone who knew Jack are invited to celebrate his life following the service at a Merion Golf Club, 450 Ardmore Avenue, Ardmore, PA. Contributions in Jack’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 625 West Ridge Pike, Conshohocken, PA, 19428.
