Bud was born in Dushore, August 10, 1927 a son of the late Frank G. & Emma Bahl Ambs. He graduated from St. Basil’s High School a member of the class of 1945. Bud served in WWII in the US Navy, stationed in the Philippines. He married the former Shirley M. Hollenback of Dushore, on August 9, 1947 at St. Basil’s church in Dushore, PA. Bud worked for Daly’s Bottled Gas and also wired many homes for Daly’s. He worked for Penn Dot in Laporte as a supervisor for 8 years. He later became a foreman at the former GTE Sylvania (now Osram) in Towanda, retiring in 1985 after 20 years of service. After retiring, Bud took over as sexton of St. Basil’s Church and Cemetery, maintaining the church and St. Basil’s and St. Francis “Cummiskey” cemetery grounds. He also built and cared for a shrine to the Blessed Mother in his meticulously mowed lawn. He also had an extensive shop when he did welding as hobby. When his health was good, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bud was a member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church in Dushore, PA and a member of McDermott Post #452 American Legion, Mildred, PA. Surviving: Three sons: Joseph F. Ambs Towanda, PA Richard W. Ambs Williamsport, PA John F. Ambs Westminster, MD Three daughters: Cathy Kriel White Haven, PA Pattie Ambs Phoenix, AZ Karen Cullen Sugar Ridge, PA Brother: Joseph Ambs Bridgewater, NJ Sisters: Sister Mary Frances Ambs I.H.M. Binghamton, NY Brother-in-law: Dick Hollenback Tucson, AZ Leo Karge, Dushore, PA 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary Ziegler of Frackville and Agnes Bayait of Towanda, PA Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 18th at 9:30 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water Street, Dushore, PA and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Philip S. Rayappan, pastor of St. Mary’s Church, Wyalusing, PA presiding. Interment will be in the adjoining parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Homer Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 17 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. The family will provide the flowers and ask that memorials be directed to the Holy Family Residence (Little Sisters of the Poor) 2500 Adams Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509. Graveside Military Services will be accorded by members of McDermott Post #452 American Legion, Mildred, PA.
