Mr. Michael Arenda, age 94, passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at his home in Mildred, PA, surrounded by his family and friends. Mike was born, October 2, 1914 in Mildred, PA son of the late Michael and Julia Elisavage Arenda Sr.. He attended Bernice schools. At an early age he was in the civil conservation corps at Camp 95, Worlds End, Laporte, PA. He served in the Army in WWII where he was stationed in France, Belgium, and Germany. He married Flora Zepponi of Mildred on November 8, 1969. He worked for the township, PennDot, and helped with the construction of the Endicott Johnson factory, later working in the cutting department, from which he retired. Mike was a member of St. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Lopez, PA, and St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, PA. He was a grounds keeper for Father Flannery and Father Baier. He was a great ticket seller, especially for the St. Francis Bazaar. He was a member of the American Legion Post 452. Mike was also a member of White Ash Land Assoc. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and just walking around in the woods. He loved sports, especially golf. He was a past member of Eagles Mere Country Club where he was the first person to get a hole-in-one on hole number nine, and he also got a hole-in-one on sixteen. Surviving: Spouse: Flora at home Many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rose Calaman, a brother, John Patrician, four sisters; Ann Blair, Mary Flynn, Julia Decker, and Sue Cox, seven nephews and two nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2008, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Mildred, PA, with his pastor the Rev. Joseph Hornick presiding. Interment will be in the St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Mildred, PA. Friends may call at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA, Thursday morning from 9:00 till 10:00A.M. Graveside Military Honors will be accorded at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery by members of the of McDermott Post #452 American Legion, Mildred, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to St Francis of Assisi Church, PO Box 307, Dushore, PA 18614 or the Mildred Ambulance Assn., PO Box 74, Mildred, PA 18632.
