OBITUARY
Michael Thomas Elchak, age 88, a long time resident of Monroeton, PA passed away on Monday, March 7, 2005 at the Memorial Hospital, Towanda, PA.
Born January 24, 1917 in Lopez, PA, Michael was the son of the late Thomas & Efemia Demanovich Elchak of Lopez. He served from 1940 to 1945 in the Army Air Force during WWII. He married the former Anne Pawlak of Lopez on September 5, 1942. They recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Michael graduated from Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, PA with a degree in Accounting. Following graduation, he moved with his family to Monroeton to begin his long career with G.T.E. Sylvania, now Osram Sylvania. He retired after 32 years of employment in 1982. For many years, he served on the Monroe Boro Town Council. He was a member of American Legion Post #42 in Towanda and a member of the White Ash Land Association in Mildred.
Michael was an avid hunter, fisherman, carpenter and gardener. It brought him great pleasure to share his gardening treasures and plants with family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Anne at home, son, Phillip Elchak of Monroeton; daughter, Denise Elchak Widener of Twinsburg, OH; son, Terrence and wife Roberta Elchak of Royersford, PA and three grandsons, Benjamin, Jonathan and Andrew Widener; brother, Leo and wife Dolores Elchak of Lopez, PA and sister, Alice and husband Walter Shepherd of Blue Hill, ME and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six brothers: John, William, Harry, Demetro, Nicholas and Alexander and two sisters, Mary Elchak and Anna Delovich.
Burial Service will be celebrated on Friday, March 11th at 10:00 A.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA with Hieromonk Michael Thier, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Vladimir’s Cemetery, Lopez, PA.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, March 10 at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. There will be a Parastas Service at 3:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
The family will provide the flowers and ask that memorial be directed to St. Vladimir’s Church, PO Box 211, Lopez, PA 18628 or to the charity of one’s choice.
