OBITUARY
Mr. Vincent R. Blasi, age 85, well known resident of Laporte, PA passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Vince was born, December 24, 1922 in Mildred, PA son of the late Endelfonso & Maria Blasi Blasi. He graduated from the Sonestown High School a member of the class of 1942. He then enlisted in the US Coast Guard during WWII and served until being discharged after the war in 1946.
After the war Vince operated his family Tavern in Laporte until his death. His mother prepared the finest spaghetti dinners in the area for many years. The atmosphere in the tavern provided a quiet family setting where folks from all over the community could gather for a meal, cup of coffee or to enjoy shuffleboard. He also welcomed several generations of medical students who interned at the Laporte Medical Center.
Vince also drove the Sullivan County High School activity bus for over 25 years, transporting the teams to away games all over N.E. PA. Vince was a lifelong member of the Laporte Ambulance Association and was the ambulance captain for over 40 years. In his later years, Vince kept in shape by bicycling from Laporte to Muncy Valley, Eagles Mere and back. He was also a lifelong accordion player and enjoyed playing for his family and his friends.
Vince was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Laporte and was the sacristan and caretaker of the cemetery.

He was devoted to his sister, Theresa Minier, who predeceased him on August 7, 2002 and a nephew Harry E. Minier Jr., on Nov. 25, 1987.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00A.M. on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Sacred Heart Church, Laporte, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA.
The family will provide the flowers and request that memorial contributions be made to the Laporte Ambulance Association, PO Box 31, Laporte, PA 18626.
