Farrell, age 90, of Dushore, PA passed away on Monday evening, October 17, 2005 at the Memorial Hospital, Towanda, PA. Valeria was born on December 25, 1914 in Mildred, PA daughter of the late Sebastian (Busty) Stortini and Anna Paganucci Stortini. She graduated from the Dushore High School a member of the class of 1938. She worked in her dad’s Soda Fountain and Tavern in Mildred for eight years. She married Joseph G. Farrell of Dushore, PA on November 26, 1946 and moved to the family farm outside of Dushore. Joe predeceased her on February 19, 1985. Valeria was an extraordinary spouse, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She took care of her mother-in-law, farmed, cooked and cleaned for her husband, two brothers-in-law and her four sons. After her children were graduated from school, she worked as a cook and waitress at Frank Bernatavitz’s Lunch for several years and then for Minier’s Corner Luncheonette from 1976 until 1991 when she retired. At the same time Valeria was still cooking at home and had dinner prepared each evening for children and grandchildren. Valeria was a very active member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church in Dushore, PA and a member of its Altar & Rosary Society. She was very active with the church picnics and especially with the Hunter’s Spaghetti Supper held at St. Basils on the first Sunday of hunting season. She was a lifetime member of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion Auxiliary, Dushore, PA. Surviving: Three sons and daughter-in-law: Gerald J. & Maria Farrell Dushore, PA James J. & Kris Farrell Nanticoke, PA Frank J. Farrell Canton, PA Daughter-in-law: Rose P. Farrell Dushore, PA Sisters: Lena Skutnick Dushore, PA Eva Hatton Laporte, PA Sister-in-law: Esperia Stortini Dushore, PA Grandchildren: Scott (Anastasia) Farrell Dushore, PA Steven Farrell Dushore, PA Angela (Jeff) Higley Forksville, PA Carie (Jay) Cory Conyngham, PA Great Grandchildren Derek Farrell Rayanna Higley Several nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Raymond J. Farrell on April 10, 2001 and a brother, Raymond (Stirk) Stortini on September 18, 1997. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Bert S. Kozen, her pastor, presiding. Interment will be in the adjoining parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 20th from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. A Vigil Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Deacon Joe Roinick, officiating. Members of St. Basil’s – St. Francis Altar and Rosary Society will recite the Rosary at 3:00 P.M. Thursday afternoon at the funeral home. The family will provide the flowers and request that Memorial contributions be directed to St. Basil’s Restoration Fund, PO Box 307, Dushore, PA 18614.
