Rice, age 79, of Wysox, PA passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA with her family by her side. Mary was born on October 7, 1928 in LeRaysville, PA, and was the daughter of the late George H. and Esther Morgan Davis. She graduated from the LeRaysville High School a member of the class of 1946. Mary received a B.S. in Education from Mansfield University in 1950. She married her husband of 56 years, David Rice of Rome, PA, on June 28, 1952. She took graduate courses from Penn State and received her Master’s in Education from SUNY – Oswego. Mary began her teaching career in Towanda, continued in Genoa, NY, and finished in Seneca Falls, NY. She taught home economics, interior design, and pre-nursing. She also taught preschool at Towanda Presbyterian Church. Mary was a member of Rome Presbyterian Church. She was an avid sports fan, basketball in particular. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She was also very proud of her Welsh heritage. She was predeceased by a son, Mark W. Rice and a brother Francis Davis of LeRaysville. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at 3:00 P.M. at the Rome Presbyterian Church with the Karen Ballard, her pastor, officiating. Flowers and memorials may be directed to Rome Presbyterian Church, PO Box 189, Rome, PA 18837. Memorial may also be sent to the Rome Cemetery Association, PO 63, Rome, PA 18837.
