Hoffman, age 84, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, January 15, 2009 at home. Don was born in Terrytown, PA on April 20, 1924, the son of the late George and Anna Shaffer Hoffman. He attended Wyalusing High School. After school he joined the US Army during WWII, during which he served in the Philippines. After the war he returned to Wyalusing, where he met and married the former Patricia Welles on February 2, 1952. Soon after coming home Don went to work for Serafini Construction Company. Then he worked at GTE Sylvania from which he retired in 1986 after 35 years of service. Don was a member of the American Legion Post #534, Wyalusing, PA. He was a past member of the Wyalusing Borough Council. He was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and helping his children with various projects. Surviving: Spouse; Patricia at home And their children: Gary and Pam Hoffman Asylum Township, PA Gwen and Arlo McMicken Wyalusing, PA Gretchen and Francis (Pete) McClure Columbia Crossroads, PA Grandchildren: Thomas Hoffman, Joel McMicken Step-Grandchildren; Jonathan McMicken, Shannon McMicken, Ben McClure, Donald Clark, Rob Clark. Also several great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Two special caregivers; Bunny MacDonald and Sandra Bates. He was predeceased by two sisters; Georgianna Cooley and Dora Kasmierski, also a step-grandson, Dee Jay McClure. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 12:00P.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA with the Rev. Barry R. Ballard, pastor of the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Wyalusing Cemetery, Wyalusing, PA. Friends may call on Tuesday morning at the Homer Funeral Home from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
