McMahon, age 80, a well respected Cherry Township farmer, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2005 at the Memorial Hospital, in Towanda, PA. Art was born on November 27, 1924 a son of the late Arthur P. & Anna E. Farrell McMahon. He graduated from St. Basil’s High School, a member of the class of 1944. He married the former Catherine Mary Ryan of Dushore, PA on August 28, 1944. The recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. He was a life long farmer, taking over the operation of the family farm from his father. He served as the Sullivan County Superintendent of Highways for eight years. At one time he was elected as the Cherry Township Tax Collector. Art was a very active member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church in Dushore and was a member of the former Holy Name Society. He participated in many parish activities and was very active with the Fourth of July picnics. He was very active in politics, and served as the Cherry Township Democrat Committeeman for many years. Art served as a director for Eastern Milk Producers Co-op and also as a director for F.H.A., and the A.S.C.S. He was a member of the Sullivan County Assistance Board for many years. Art also enjoyed bowling and making many trips with friends to basketball and football games. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and very much enjoyed playing cards on Friday nights at the home of his nephew. Surviving: Spouse: Catherine at home Son and daughter-in-law: Michael & Nancy McMahon Dushore, PA Daughter and son-in-law; Patricia & James Kearney Taylorsville, NC Four grandchildren and spouses: James Kearney Jr. Erin & Todd Miller Paula Rae & John Walker Ryan McMahon Three great grandchildren Ethan & Ayla Miller Joseph Walker Several nieces and nephews. Art was predeceased by a son, R. Paul McMahon, on June 4, 1970, killed in action in Cambodia during the Vietnam War and by sisters: Elizabeth (Betty) Sick on July 29, 1980 and Mary McMahon on May 8, 1992. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Michael B. Harris, former pastor, presiding. Interment will be in the adjoining parish cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, Nov. 14th at the funeral home from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. There will be a Vigil Service at 6:45 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be directed to St. Basil’s Restoration Fund, PO Box 307, Dushore, PA 18614.
