Harrington, 97, Sun City Center, Fla., formerly of Watertown, died Oct. 16. at Cypress Creek Assisted Living Center, Sun City Center. Born Jan. 28, 1912, in Dushore, Pa., son of Maurice and Mary Lane Harrington, he attended St. Basil's High School Dushore, a member of the class of 1928, Pennsylvania State University and Babson Institute, Boston, Mass. For several years, he was associated with his father in the manufacture and distribution of Harrington's Ice Cream and Glendale Farms Dairy Products. On Oct. 15, 1940, he married Margaret B. Branche of Watertown, at Holy Family Church, with the Rev. Harold J. Skelly officiating. The couple moved to Towanda, Pa., where Mr. Harrington, still associated with his father, managed an ore plant and frozen food locker plants in Sayre, Pa., and Towanda. In 1946, the plants were sold and Mr. Harrington went into the Heating and appliance business in Towanda, where he was a director of Citizen National Bank and a president of Towanda Chamber of Commerce. In 1953, the family moved to Watertown, where Mr. Harrington became associated with Blue Cross. He was managing director of the Hospital Service Corporation of Jefferson County from 1955 until retirement in 1974. The couple moved to Florida in 2002. His associations in Watertown included membership in the Black River Valley Club, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club and several years' membership in the Chamber of Commerce Paint Clean up Committee. He was a member of Holy Family Church, where he took part in Cub and Boy Scouts and various church activities. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Coleman, Palmyra, and a son, James M., who resides in Enniskillen, Ireland. Mrs. Harrington died Aug. 24, 2008. He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret “Peg” Gerrity on July 15, 2002. A private burial service will be in St. Basil's Church Cemetery, Dushore, PA.
