Manny was born in Dushore, Sullivan County, PA on January 22, 1936 to the late Manuel and Frances Shenuski Souto. He attended Dushore Public School and was a member of the last graduating class before the school closed in 1953. After graduation, Manny attended Williamsport Technical School where he completed a two-year course in tool and die making and also complete a two years apprentice course in Endicott, NY. He then went on to work at Charnitski’s Market and Glenn Plott’s Garage in Dushore and Remington Rand in Elmira. Manny entered the service in August 1959 and served in the US Army and the reserves receiving an honorable discharge in 1965. He began working in 1960 at IBM in Owego, retiring from there in May 1990. On October 3, 1964 he married the former Helen Hope at St. Anthony’s Church in Stowell, PA. They celebrated 45 wonderful years of marriage this past fall. Manny was a charter member of the Windham Fire Company and the Windham Township Volunteers. Over the years, Manny derived great enjoyment from following his children and grandchildren in their various school and sporting events. He was a past member of the Northeast Bradford wrestling club. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting, cutting firewood and making maple syrup. Manny will be remembered by many in the area for his musical talent. He started playing the accordion at the age of 12 with his brother Len. Together, they formed the Gypsies and entertained at numerous dances over the years. For the past 14 years Manny was a member of the Northern Harmony band and enjoyed playing polkas and square dances with them throughout the area. Survivors include his wife Helen of Windham; daughter and son-in-law, Hope & Jeff Turner of Northville, MI; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom & Mary Souto of LeRaysville and Jim & Melissa Souto of Wyalusing; grandchildren, Chelsie & Cory Souto and Luke, Sarah & Grace Turner; brother and sister-in-law, Leonard & Marie Souto of Milan; sister and brother-in-law, Rita & George Nicklas of Afton, VA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Manny was predeceased by a son, Arthur, on May 18, 1972. A Service will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, PA Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Stowell, PA. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 30th, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. The family will provide flowers.
