March 28, 1933 — December 14, 2009

P. DEAN HOMER FUNERAL HOME 206 WATER STREET PO BOX 1 DUSHORE, PA 18614 TEL 570 928-8163 FAX 570 928-8116 Email pdh@epix.net OBITUARY Mary A. Mooney, 76, died on December 14, 2009 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. She was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and she embodied the virtues of patience, compassion, and strength. She was born March 28, 1933 to Katherine and Friend Reeser in Eagles Mere, Pennsylvania where she grew up and graduated from Sullivan Highlands High School, in Sonestown, a member of the class of 1950. In 1950, Mary moved to the Philadelphia area, began working for Arco, and met her husband of fifty-four years, Eugene Mooney. They moved to Norwood, PA and eventually Glenolden, PA, where they raised their five children until they relocated to Eagles Mere over a decade ago. Mary worked many jobs throughout her lifetime and often had two while raising a family and running the household. She was the first female bow and arrow instructor in the state of Pennsylvania, the only elected official in the extended Mooney family (through her position on the Eagles Mere Borough Council), and an important contributor to the creation of the first and only Eagles Mere Museum. Her most powerful legacy though is the immense compassion she bestowed upon all those who knew her. Her children, grandchildren, and friends have always found refuge and comfort as she welcomed them into her home. Her children depended on her as a loving listener, a willing babysitter, and an example of devotion. Her grandchildren treasured their visits to Eagles Mere and how special she made each one of them feel, and many friends describe her as their dearest and closest friend. Her quiet, soft-spoken demeanor never judged, and her wit and wisdom gained her great respect by everyone who met her. She lived to know and love six children, eighteen grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, who have all survived her, in addition to her husband who is currently residing in Philadelphia with his son. A funeral service was held Saturday, December 19, 2009 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Springfield, Pennsylvania with the help of O'Leary Funeral Home. Despite a disruptive snow storm that morning, family and friends still made their way to the service to celebrate Mary's life and legacy. An additional memorial service will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010 in Eagles Mere, Pennsylvania at St Francis Catholic Church.
