OBITUARY
Thomas John Sick, (Tom) age 56, a lifelong resident of Dushore, PA died Friday, January 01, 2010 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA. He was born August 7, 1953, the son of the late Joseph J. and Elizabeth (Betty) McMahon Sick. Tom has lived on the family estate in Cherry Mills all of his life. Tom attended St. Basil’s School until 1966 and graduated from Sullivan County High School in 1972. Tom also attended Williamsport Area Community College and Scranton University.
From 1972 to 1976 Tom worked for the Department of Transportation - District 3-0 as a Construction inspector. For a short period of time in 1977 he also worked for the Area Agency on Aging as Activity Director for the Dushore, Towanda and Sayre, Senior Citizens Centers. From 1978 to 1986 GTE Sylvania employed Tom in Towanda, PA during this period also tended bar part time for Jay Bird's in Dushore.
On January 6, 1986 Mr. Sick started work with The Department of the Auditor General, Bureau of County Audits. Tom held various auditing positions in the Department, and retired as an Audit Manager of the Liquid Fuels Tax Fund Program, a position he has held since March of 1994. He retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsyvania in December of 2009.
The years he spent with the Auditor General’s office were greatly rewarding due to the work he performed and the people he worked with from the Auditor General’s Department and Department of Transportation. Tom was also very proud of the working relationship he had with the officials from the Counties, Cities, Townships, and Boroughs; he worked with over the years.
Tom also worked part time at the Eagles-Mere Country Club as an assistant bartender, for over fifteen years.
Over the course of his life Tom was active in volunteer work with St. Basil’s Church in Dushore. He was a CCD teacher for almost fifteen year from 1973 to 1988. Also for six of those years Tom was the Director of Religious Education for St. Basil’s parish. In addition Tom was the Chairperson for ten of St. Basil’s 4th of July picnic’s, working with six different Pastors over the years. Tom worked on a variety of fundraisers the parish held and he also served on various committees when the parish had a Parish Council. Fr. Eugene Carr also appointed Tom to the St. Basil’s Cemetery Board in 1982.
Tom was also active and proud member of the Sullivan County Democratic Party. Tom was a member of the Pennsylvania State Democratic Committee for six years and was also a County Committeeman for eight years. Tom was also active in various state wide and congressional races in the County.
Mr. Sick was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, St. John Newman Council 12406 attaining the position of 3rd Degree Knight. Tom was also a member and past Vice President of the Dushore Lions Club. Mr. Sick is also a member of the Girardville Ancient Order of Hibernians - Jack Kehoe Chapter.

A Transferal Service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by as Mass of Christian Burial at St. Basil's Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, his pastor, Rev. Eugene R. Carr, former pastor and Msgr. Willis W. West, con-celebrating. Interment will be in St. Basil's Cemetery.
