Gene was born in Cherry Township, on February 6, 1938 a son of the late John (Jack) Francis McDonald and Stella Theresa Lech. He graduated from St. Basil’s High School, a member of the class of 1956. After graduation he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served from 1957 to 1960. He worked for an insurance company in Philadelphia and later went to Barber School in Philadelphia. He worked as a barber for several years in the Philadelphia area. He returned to Sullivan County and worked for GTE Sylvania for several years. Gene was a member of St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA and a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron #601, Sonestown, PA. Gene was always willing to help out in times of need. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, being outdoors and taking care of his horses. Surviving: Spouse: Deborah (Christman) McDonald of Unityville, PA, they married in June of 1984. Loyal Companions (Horses): Shazam Rumpy Wimpy A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 A.M. on Friday, August 8, 2008 at St. Basils Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, his pastor, presiding. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 11:00 until the time of mass.
