OBITUARY
John Francis McCarthy Jr., age 64, of Wyalusing, PA passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at his home. John was born in West Chester, December 23, 1942 a son of the late John F. & Mary Buck McCarthy. He graduated from Bishop Shanahan High School in West Chester, PA.
John served with the US Army and was stationed in Korea, during the Vietnam War. After he was discharged he worked for the US Postal System in West Chester, retiring to this area in 1998 after 36 years of service.
John was a member of St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA. During his working career in West Chester, he was very active in VFW Post 106 (life member), Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 908, B.P.O.E. Lodge 853, Fame Fire Company and the Philadelphia Athletics Historical Society and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1333 where he was the Financial Secretary for 25 years.
When John moved to this area he became actively involved with the Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, Dushore where he was a life member and also the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Known to his friends as “The Big Dipper” or “Uncle George,” John was noted for “making new friends.”

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed at 11:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Bert S. Kozen, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Basil’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2006 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M.
The family will provide the flowers and ask that Memorials be directed to: Loyalsock American Legion Post #996, PO Box 171, Dushore, PA 18614 or to Knights of Columbus, PO Box 853, Dushore, PA 18614.
Graveside Military Services will be accorded by members of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, Dushore, PA. Members are asked to assemble and pass in review on Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
