(Jerry) Jannone, age 76, co-founder of Camp Ballibay, Camptown, PA passed away on Monday, November 13, 2006 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. Jerry was born on December 23, 1929 on Staten Island, NYC a son of the late James A. & Agnes McLaughlin Jannone. He attended New Dorp High School, Rhodes Preparatory, and NYU. He earned a BA Psychology, MS Education; attending Columbia University, Wagner College, Newark College of Engineering, Rutgers University, and Kean College. He taught in Mountainside, NJ; Berkeley Heights, NJ; and was Department Chairman in Woodcliff Lake, NJ in science. An avid pilot, he flew the camp's twin engine aircraft and was for many years a flight instructor CFI-I. He married the former Dorothy J. Piatek on December 27, 1959 and they celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in 2005. Jerry served in the U.S.Army after World War II. Jerry and Dottie founded Camp Ballibay in 1964, and left high-school teaching shortly thereafter to devote full time to the business. Ballibay grew from its beginning as a small visual art and equestrian camp to an incredible program for children interested in all areas of the fine and performing arts. Gerard designed all the buildings on campus, and laid the foundations for all the programs and activities in which children can participate. In 1998 his son John joined Jerry and Dottie in the operation and development of Ballibay. Jerry remained an active force in the camp business until his death, building both programs and facilities. He was particularly fond of the developing Country and Western music program, and his most recent idea was the addition of a program in the Chinese martial art Tai Chi. 2007 will mark Ballibay’s 44th summer of operation. Ballibay was Jerry’s life’s work; his passion and his greatest accomplishment. Jerry was a member of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Wyalusing, PA and was former director of the former First National Bank of Bradford County for eight years, and was also a director of the former Keystone Financial Inc.
