William Peter Fitzgerald, 72, of Fayetteville, NC died unexpectedly, November 13, 2006. He was born April 23, 1934, in Cherry Township, PA, the son of James Anthony Fitzgerald and Lena Ann Stiff. Bill graduated from St. Basil’s High School and served proudly as a member of United States Army for twenty years. He retired with a rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 and was awarded two bronze stars and the Vietnam Service Medal. He also served as a Department of Army civilian for 20 years; retiring in 1996 from Fort Bragg’s Central Receiving Point. Bill spent his retirement years traveling with his wife and enjoying the company of his grandchildren. He was a cherished husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Bullock Fitzgerald; daughter, Theresa (Ron) Southers of Fayetteville; son, William Peter (Mary) Fitzgerald, Jr. of Cary; son, Charles James Fitzgerald of Fayetteville; daughter, Deborah Fitzgerald of Hope Mills; daughter, Joan (David) Campbell of Wilmington; daughter, Brenda Fitzgerald of Fayetteville; 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren. William was one of eleven children, his surviving siblings are his twin brother Peter (Carleen) Fitzgerald of Sugar Run, PA, brother Pat (Donna) of Reno, NV, sister SR. Theresa Fitzgerald of Scranton, PA and sister Celia (George) Lapinsky of Wilmington, NC; a brother-in-law Francis Tourscher, of Dushore; and sisters-in-law Ruby Fitzgerald and Melinda Fitzgerald, both of Dushore, and Jenny Fitzgerald of Towanda; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Helen Tourscher and Kathryn (Carl) Muller; and brothers Joseph, Edward, Paul and James. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 16, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Ed Burch presiding. Internment will be at Lafayette Memorial Park West.
