OBITUARY
Carl E. “Buddy” Houseknecht, age 83, of Laporte, PA passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the Gate House after a brief illness.
Buddy was born in Muncy, on August 3, 1927 a son of the late Emerson “Mickey” and Dotha Mahaffey Houseknecht. He entered the US Navy right out of school and served in the Pacific on the USS Tarawa. He attended reunions with his shipmates about every ten years. Returning home he married the former Tillie Koslosky of Exeter on November 23, 1950 they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
The lived in Eagles Mere for six years and Buddy began working for Penn DOT, and later moved their permanent home in Laporte. Buddy retired from Penn Dot in 1986 after 35 years of service. He also worked at the former Black General Store in Laporte where he was a meat cutter. In early years, he coached Little League and was the first fire chief of the Laporte Fire Co and also drove their ambulance. He was also the caretaker for many years for the Mt. Ash Cemetery.
Buddy was a member of the Laporte United Methodist Church and a member of ASCME, NRA, Loyalsock Post # 996 American Legion, Dushore, PA; A.J. Bird Memorial Post #384, Eagles Mere Laporte Lions Club, Laporte Fire Co. and Ambulance Association and the Mt. Ash Cemetery Assoc. In retirement, he and Tillie traveled and were on many cruises. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed the outdoors. And was a loyal regular at Blasi’s Café.

Numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters: Mrs. Helen Shultz and Mrs. Anita Moyer, both of Laporte.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Laporte United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert W. Brown, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laporte, PA.
Friends may call on Saturday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
Graveside Military Services will be accorded by member of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, Dushore, PA at 12:00 Noon at the Cemetery.
