DEAN HOMER FUNERAL HOME 206 WATER STREET PO BOX 1 DUSHORE, PA 18614 TEL 570 928-8163 FAX 570 928-8116 Email pdh@epix.net August 30, 2006 OBITUARY Michael John Kachmar Jr., age 79, of 216 Academy Terrace, Dushore, PA passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, August 29, 2006 at his home, with his loving companion of over 30 years, Clarice Poplin, at his side. Mike was born in Aliquippa, PA on April 30, 1927 son of the late Michael J. & Anna Sheredy Kachmar. He graduated from the Johnson City NY High School a member of the class of 1945. After graduation he entered the Army where he served in Italy at the conclusion of WWII. He was the manager of the former Endicott Johnson Shoe Mfg. Co. of Mildred, PA. He began a career with Commonwealth Telephone Company from which he retired after many years of service. Mike, an avid bowler, was very active with community activities, and had served on the Dushore Borough Council for several terms, coach of the Dushore Midget League Blue Caps and was a member of the Dushore Fire Company and Ambulance Association and a member of the first class of EMTS. He was also a clerk for the Dushore Borough Election Board for many, many years. He was also a member of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, Dushore, PA and the VFW in Montgomery, PA. Mike was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, PA and a member of the former Holy Name Society and a former usher at St. Basil’s. Surviving: Companion, Clarice Poplin and her children, Monica Litzelman, Bill, Randy and David Poplin; six children: Dennis (Barb) Kachmar, Binghamton, NY; Linda (Joe) Smith, Binghamton, NY; Karen (Jeff) Gaudet, St. Petersburg, FL; Patti Fabian, Binghamton, NY; Rebecca (Kevin) Eggleston, Endwell, NY and Lisa (Joe) Wiles, New Albany, PA. Two sisters: Margaret Guley, Vestal, NY and Jacqueline Sarkisian, Vestal, NY; 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his spouse, the former Betty Jane Albrechta Kachmar in 1972 and a brother, Edward Kachmar. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Bert S. Kozen, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Mildred, PA. Friends may call on Friday, Sept. 1, from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials are directed to Dushore Ambulance Association, PO Box 1, Dushore, PA 18614. Graveside Military Services will be accorded by Members of Loyalsock Post # 996 American Legion, Dushore, PA. Members are asked to assemble and pass in review at 7:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home.
