Charles Edward Thompson was born on April 15, 1939 in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania to Leland and Eleanor McPherson Thompson. Ed was a graduate of the class of 1957 from Wyalusing Jr. Sr. High School participating in the first Wyalusing football team, basketball and baseball teams. He continued his education at Lafayette College graduating in 1961 as a civil engineer. After serving in the U.S Army, he moved to Lake Charles in 1963 where he began his career with Hercules, Inc. He continued with that company until his retirement in 2001 after serving in such positions as Manager of North American Engineering. He spent much of his retirement volunteering for the AARP Tax-Aide Program, working as a certified financial planner, and consulting for Bassel, Inc. (formerly Hercules, Inc.). He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Lake Charles. He is survived by his wife, Mary Moffett Thompson of Lake Charles; his son Eric Worth Thompson of Los Angeles, CA; his daughter Erin Thompson Smith and her husband Jonathan C. Smith of Atlanta, GA; his mother Eleanor Thompson of Camptown; two sisters, Katherine (Don) Benjamin of Catasauqua and Jody (Mern) Stroud, of Wysox; a sister-in-law, Francine (Ned) Batch of Camptown, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Leland A. Thompson in 1966 and his brother John F. Thompson in 1987. A portion of Ed’s heart remained in Bradford County even though he spent years away, therefore his request to be laid to rest in Camptown. A Memorial Service will be held at the Camptown Community Church on October 14, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. Interment will be in Camptown Cemetery. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at the church at 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society P.O.
