Karge, age 82, well known and respected resident of Dushore, PA passed away on Thursday, November 04, 2010. Leo was born in Nordmont on January 29, 1928 a son of the late Raymond and Ruth Foust Karge. He graduated from the Sonestown High School a member of the class of 1945. Leo enlisted in the US Navy in 1946 during WWII and re-enlisted and served overseas in the Korean War until his discharge in 1954. He married the former C. Elaine Hollenback of Wilmot on February 21, 1948. Elaine predeceased him on October 28, 1993. After his discharge form the Navy Leo returned home. He worked at Fitzpatrick and Connelly, later Fitzpatrick and Lambert, for 22 years. In 1972 Leo was elected as a Sullivan County Commissioner and served until 1976. He then went to work for Penn Dot as the Garage Forman in Laporte for 6 years. He then began selling Prudential Life Insurance which he was engaged in for 6 years. He was elected as District Magistrate for Eastern Sullivan County where he served retiring in 1994. Leo was a very active member of St. Basil’s Church, in Dushore. He served on many committees and helped with every picnic and with almost every activity that was in the church hall. He was also a member of Loyalsock Post 996 American Legion, Dushore, PA. He was a former member of the Sullivan County Democrat Committee and the NRA. He was very active with the Dushore Fire Co. and Ambulance Association, where he served as an EMT for many years. He also enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter Sierra , visiting family and friends, hunting and was an avid Yankee fan. Surviving: Three sons: Michael A. Karge Williamsport, PA Ronald L. Karge Phoenix, AZ Scott J. Karge and his close friend Tammy DiJoseph Dushore, PA Brothers: Harold (Pat) Karge Montoursville, PA Arthur Karge Picture Rocks, PA Brother-in-law: Dick (Libby) Hollenback Tucson, AZ Sister-in-law: Alice Hollenback Greenville, OH Three grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Lynn F. Karge (twin) and Raymond Karge and brother-in-law: Donald Hollenback in 1992. A transferal Service will be held on Monday, November 8, 2010 at 9:30 A.M. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Cummiskey, PA. Friends may call on Monday, from 8:30 A.M. until the time of the service. Graveside Military Services will be accorded by member of Loyalsock Post 996 American Legion, Dushore, and McDermott Post #452 American Legion, Mildred, PA on Monday morning at St. Francis Cemetery, Cummiskey, PA. The family will provide the flowers and request that memorial contributions are directed to St. Basil’s Restoration Fund, PO Box 307, Dushore, PA 18614.
