Vernon Broschart, age 90, of Forks Township, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2010 at the Dar-way Elder Care, Estella, PA. Vernon was born on February 27, 1920 in Forks Township, a son of the late Bernard John Broschart & Nellie Marie Leahy Broschart. He graduated from the Estella High School a member of the class of 1938 . He worked with the C.C.C. Camps in Forksville, PA building cabins at World's End State Park. He served in the US Navy from April 1944 to April 1946 as a combat veteran in the Pacific Theatre in the Marshall Islands Campaign. After the war he married the former Helen Litzelman of Cherry Township on November 18, 1946. She predeceased him on June 26, 2002 Returning home after WWII Vernon worked for the Roscoe Burgess Pallet Mill for 15 years before succeeding to the ownership of the family farm. He operated the farm until moving to Dar-way in 2005. Vernon was a very active member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Overton and also assisted in the annual August 15 Overton picnics and was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery Association. He was also active with various agricultural organizations. Surviving; Sons and daughters-in-law: James & Georgeanne Broschart Dushore, PA William (Burf) & Diane Broschart Overton, PA Daughters and sons-in-law: Josephine & Richard Silverstrim Dushore, PA Ann & Frank Ward Dushore, PA Brothers: Carl Joseph & Charlotte Broschart Dushore, PA Charles Broschart Balsam Spa, NY Vernon was predeceased by a sister Grace Broschart of Silver Spring, MD on September 17, 2004. 13 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A Transferal Service will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 8:30 A.M. from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 A.M. at St. Basil's Church, Dushore, PA with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Overton, PA. Friends may call on Friday, July 2, 2010 from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Graveside Military Services will be accorded by Members of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, Dushore and by members of A.J. Bird Memorial Post # 384 V.F.W. New Albany at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday morning July 3, 2010 at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Overton, PA. Member are asked to assemble and pass-in-review on Friday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family will provide the Flowers and request that donations be made to St. Francis Xavier Cemetery Association, 2002 Molyneux Hill Road, Dushore, PA 18614.
